About Ken

Council Estate to Army to Therapist

Grew up on a council estate. On benefits. Didn't finish school. Bounced job to job until I joined the Royal Artillery in my early 20s. Now I'm an MA qualified, MBACP registered therapist helping people who've always felt like the black sheep.

The black sheep story

Not a straight path. A real one. Didn't finish high school. Went back as an adult through an Access course, then went on to earn a BA (2:1) and an MA

1

Council Estate - Wakefield

Grew up on a council estate in Wakefield. On benefits. Didn't finish high school. Always felt different, always the black sheep. Bounced job to job, trying to find where I fit.

2

Royal Artillery

Joined the British Army, Royal Artillery, in my early 20s. Gave me discipline and purpose, and showed me what pressure does to lads who carry everything quietly.

3

Therapist - Now Pontefract

Now based in Pontefract as an MA qualified, MBACP registered therapist. I help other black sheep - especially men from Wakefield and across West Yorkshire - who've spent their lives feeling too much or not enough.

Grounded, evidence-based, tailored to you

How I work

I'm an integrative counsellor and psychotherapist. That means I don't stick to one model. I draw on different evidence-based approaches and tailor therapy to you - your history, your goals, your way of making sense of things. Our work is collaborative. I won't tell you what to do, diagnose you in session one, or rush you to feel better. We'll build a safe, compassionate relationship where you can explore at your own pace. Some weeks that's making sense of the past. Other weeks it's finding ways to cope right now. Alongside clinical work I stay active in the profession through ongoing CPD and professional engagement, including presenting at the International BACP Conference. I bring that learning back into the room with you.

Who I Work With

Who I Work With

I work with adults who feel like they don't quite fit — the black sheep, the ones who hold it together for everyone else. I have a particular interest in men's mental health and those who find it hard to ask for help, but my practice is open to anyone who resonates with how I work. What People Bring to Therapy You don't need a diagnosis to start therapy. People often come because something doesn't feel right, even if they can't name it yet. Common themes include: • Trauma and its lasting impact — including PTSD and Complex PTSD • Anxiety, feeling on edge, or unable to switch off • Shame, self-criticism, and low self-worth • Imposter feelings — feeling like a fraud at work, in relationships, or in life • Childhood experiences that still shape the present • Feeling disconnected, like an outsider, or not belonging • Relationship difficulties and feeling unseen or unheard • Men's mental health — pressure to cope alone If you see yourself in any of this, you're not alone — and you don't have to work through it alone either.
